Just in case you are wondering what I am up to at the moment. Well, I played around with some computer vision algorithms on a weekend in April and build a replacement for ARToolKit in a day. As usual with software it took until this very day to get a demo together. This is a first trial to see how the SSTT library performs on various and random user hardware. Wir haben schon zig Jahre Bibliothek XYZ die feature XYZ implementiert. Nun ist XYZ ein einziger Haufen Flöhe und selbst der Erfinder, der auch der Chef vom Herrn retrakker ist, kennt sich nur noch schemenhaft aus - das Ding auf Symbian zu portieren war einem wahnwitzigen Studenten aus Schweden gelungen (Hut ab!). In der Zwischenzeit hat sich Herr retrakker erdreistet sowas wie XYZ zu implementieren (nenne wir es mal ABC) und das in Schick und Schnell - allerdings mit Hilfe der Bibliothek OpenSTU. Die glorreiche Idee des Chefs: lass uns doch ABC auf Symbian zu portieren. OMG, OpenSTU ist optimiert auf Intel - von ARM weit und breit keine Rede. Ausserdem ist es ein Monster: sehr gut implementiert aber gross (macht halt mehr als nur XYZ).

Wo ist das Problem: wir haben XYZ auf Symbian und ABC würde eben nur das gleiche machen nur in Schick. Die Funktionen von XYZ oder ABC sind aber eben nur ein Mittel zum Zweck. Und bis heute bleibt der Zweck verborgen. Ach und nur so nebenher: wir machen Forschung, wir sind eigentlich keine R&D Bude.
